Second internship
During my second internship, two options emerged. The first one was introduced to me by my sister’s colleague, a design and creative company. The second one is masion kitusue. The name of the first design company was Wild. When I went for an interview, my boss looked at my portfolio and told me directly that the models I made could not meet his drawing standards. I needed to model the work field. Criterion does not have a clear concept, and his direct narration shocked me a little. But then he said that I could follow him to do some assisting work, but he did not elaborate on what the assisting work included. When I went to Masion Kitusue to learn about the job content the next day, I found that the positions they offered me were not very related to my major. Most of them were related to e-commerce operations, but they are also considered a relatively big brand, maybe Can you provide me with a stable internship at this juncture? This was one of my thoughts and concerns about these two jobs, but it soon came to a turning point.

One day later, wild design studio suddenly asked me to help with an exhibition they had at the Yicang Art Museum in Shanghai. I entered the venue as an internal staff member and participated in the work of setting up the exhibition. This made me more familiar with the work content provided by wild. Begin to be interested. The content of the exhibition hall covers space design, overall layout, as well as art and fashion clothing. I also participated in the internal public exhibition of this exhibition, where many famous artists and figures came, such as the managing director of LV China. After this day, I couldn’t help but be curious about this job, so I decided to join here.

I will tell the experience of wild design studio in three parts.
The first stage is when I first became familiar with the work
This company does not have a check-in standard. Everyone’s working hours are relatively casual. You can arrive before about 11:30. I was initially responsible for finding suppliers for the company’s projects, and I tried to submit articles through various channels. , are all trivial tasks, which may be a bit boring at first, but I was surprised to find that hard work in these ways can really bring great rewards, especially the submission work made me realize that there is so much exposure for myself. way.

In the second stage, my work became more in-depth, and I began to make preliminary plans for some luxury gift designs, such as RIMOWA ALEAXANDER MCQUEEN Aesop and Arc’teryx. Of course, some of them did not advance to the implementation of the project. I am also doing copywriting planning for some events, such as the Celine trunk show. The most exciting part was that I actually participated in a business trip in the second month. I took a bus from Shanghai to Suzhou to participate in the curation. Of course, I also took a little time to see the scenery of Suzhou. This was a special experience.

The third stage is the most noteworthy and the one that left the deepest impression on me. In the third month, one of the designers in the company suddenly resigned, which resulted in a vacancy and a part of the work. Without anyone to complete it, the burden fell on me. This is a very challenging design job for me. My first job is to design an incense burner for the real estate department of Kering Group. Due to the confidentiality agreement, I cannot reveal the shape of this incense burner, but it is a very interesting design. The difficulty of the tiring work did not lie in the initial design, but in the modifications frequently requested by the boss in the later stages. Fortunately, I survived. We have entered the second stage, looking for manufacturers to make it. Because the material of this incense burner is special, we decided to use environmentally friendly materials and use recycled and re-created ceramics for mass production. There are very few manufacturers for this process in China. We Searched on various social networks until I found a studio called X design (pseudonym). I used a pseudonym because of sensitivity. I found that 80% of the recycled ceramics on the market were basically monopolized by them. I didn’t think too much at the time. I just felt that I had finally found a supplier, so I contacted them rashly and told them our needs during the communication process. and related designs. The worst thing happened, because considering that we only had 500 finished products, I knew that making assembly line products in the factory would require huge mold opening costs. I was worried that they would not be willing to undertake it, so I mentioned the name of Kering Group in our communication. , I hoped that if they were willing to cooperate with such a well-known brand, they could also bring more visibility to themselves. But when I mentioned the brand, the manager of x studio suddenly became furious. She quickly contacted the management of the gift design department of Karing Group to try to verify the authenticity of this project, but our project was different from that of their gift design department. The same departments kept each other’s secrets before the project was implemented. The sudden contact from the manager of x studio made the Kering gift design department think that we were doing deception in the name of Kering Group, so they contacted the legal department. . It was the first time that I encountered such a sudden situation. After I told my boss about it, I couldn’t sleep all night. The abnormal behavior of x studio manager made me feel scared and confused.
I found out the next day that Kering had directly cooperated with x studio. My behavior yesterday made the people at x studio feel hugely threatened. They were worried that we would take away their opportunities. Although the misunderstanding was resolved the next day, this mistake made Kering Group aware of the risks of cooperating with us, and my boss severely criticized me for this matter. My communication error this time may result in the studio never being able to cooperate with Kering again. This is the first time I feel the importance of communication in the design industry.

Finally, I want to make a summary. Regarding my work content, I found that communication skills with customers are much more difficult than I thought. Even a small mistake can cause huge problems. The art and design industry is not just about drawing, designing, and modeling. A huge project is required from design to implementation.
However, this internship made me directly feel the huge connection between the luxury goods industry and the art industry. I cannot analyze this matter from a professional perspective, but from my understanding, in most art venues in Shanghai and art activities are sponsored by luxury brands and outsourced to studios like ours, but the right to speak in our design work only belongs to our studio boss. This phenomenon makes art creation in China, at least in Shanghai, become There is less diversity, and even some uniformity, and more ideas cannot be seen. It seems that these arts and designs require a lot of packaging and marketing.
I am grateful that this job allows me to experience such diverse and different designs. Difficulties are accompanied by joy. This is probably the meaning of internship.
