reflection of DPS

MAIN BRIEF
Since I started this internship two months ago, I’ve decided to break it down into four phases and update it with the most recent internship details. The stages will be labeled in ABCD order in the headings, and the details of the events interspersed with them will be categorized with numbers such as A(1) and B(2) for your convenience.

A
The first stage is a reflection on my search for an internship
I chose to enter my internship in Shanghai, the fastest-growing city in China. The economic environment is different between domestic and foreign countries, and the employment situation in various industries is also very different. The economic environment is different in China and abroad, and the employment situation of each industry is also very different. Familiarizing myself with the employment situation of interior design majors in China can also assist me in making the decision of whether to stay in China to work in the future.

b I used two job search apps to select suitable jobs for myself, and I also used these apps to find out which jobs I could apply for in my major. The results were very different from what I expected. Most of the job search platforms for interior design were for furniture companies. I chose to interview three companies on my first day, the first being Sophia Home Furnishings, the second a small home improvement company, and the third an independent installation art studio. The first company offered me a salary of one hundred dollars a day, but my job content included a sales nature, and their workplace was also a long way away from me. The job content of sales was also very unfamiliar to me. I didn’t go to the second interview, and the third one was an online interview, in which I learned from the exchange with their boss that they did some creative installation art from time to time. This field of installation art was also one of my interests during my school years. The name of this company is YULINJIA Installation Art Company.

my work in YULINJIA

When I came to the company on the first day, the most uncomfortable thing for me was the daily attendance, because it was too far away from the company’s place, I needed to get up at 7:30 every day, clean myself up and then take the subway for more than an hour, and then walk for 20 minutes to reach the company within the required time. It was rainy weather in Shanghai those days and I felt very uncomfortable. In addition to attendance issues, I also faced problems with the content of my work. On my first day at the office, my boss assigned me the task of conceptualizing a competition project on architecture and installations, a project about building a commercially viable building or landmark on a deserted archipelago in the sea, and the boss told me about their initial ideas and asked me to put together a full report. I didn’t even get a few valid images.

d I have serious questions about the creativity of this tiny company. The owner’s idea was to create a giant moon, wrapped in branches, that would reflect the overall sense of homecoming, return, and homeland. I can’t produce a complete structure of the idea with just these few words, and I’m having a hard time moving forward with my typography process, I’m very unhappy with this part of the work, and I also find the idea very boring. But I had no right to object, and I needed to do my best to distill the information I needed for my typesetting from my boss’s mere words. In the end this was my output.

e In the end I didn’t last in this company, I asked to leave on the fourth day after I finished this picture, and they didn’t send me the promised salary as promised, I admit that I was starting to rush in this stage of looking for an internship, and entered a company I didn’t like without knowing much about it, but working in a place you don’t like won’t last long, and just like my first internship, which I didn’t even have time to record into the As with my first internship, I didn’t even have time to document my DPS process before it ended.

Reflection
The biggest problems I encountered during this time were
1 The wrong company
2 The wrong recruiting platform (maybe)
3 Unsuitable job content
4 Time management

1 The unsuitability of this company is reflected in the fact that the distance is too far and the attendance time is too long, resulting in too little effective working time;
2 The information I provided on the recruitment platform may not be suitable, including my CV and self-introduction.
3 Communication with the boss is too little, resulting in the work content is too big deviation from the imagination.
4 My own time management also has a lot of problems, which makes me very tired and not interested in my work.
